Sigourney Weaver in Prayers for Bobby

Prayers for Bobby is a TV movie based on the book by Leroy F. Aarons. The true story of the life and legacy of Bobby Griffith, a young gay man who killed himself due to his mother's and community's religious intolerance. Mary Griffith (Sigourney Weaver), a devout religious housewife who refuses to accept her teenage son Bobby (Ryan Kelley) being gay, begins a campaign to "cure" him. Until Bobby, in an act of pain and desperation, flings himself off a freeway overpass at the age of 20. Mary questions her faith and the beliefs she has been taught by the Church, and becomes a national crusader for gay and lesbian youth. Watch a trailer...

"Prayers For Bobby is the book kids give their parents when they come out. This will be another way for them to sit down with your family and say, 'I have something to talk to you about. Let's watch a Sigourney Weaver movie,'" said Sigourney Weaver.

Prayers for Bobby starring Sigourney Weaver (picture), Henry Czerny, Ryan Kelley (picture), Dan Butler, Austin Nichols, Scott Bailey (picture), Carly Schroeder, Shannon Eagen, directed by Russell Mulcahy, is set to air on January 24, 2009 at 9 pm on the Lifetime network.

Robinson's invocation not aired on HBO

Openly gay Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson's prayer was, surprisingly for many, not aired by HBO, exclusive broadcater of Obama's "We Are One" event at the Licoln Memorial yesterday. No official reason has been given yet. Robinson's prayer is available here and included : "O God of our many understandings, we pray that you will... Bless us with anger – at discrimination, at home and abroad, against refugees and immigrants, women, people of color, gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people..." Watch a Christianity Today video filmed from the audience...

UPDATE JAN 20:
It was the presidential inaugural committee, not HBO, who took responsibility for the perceived slight on Monday, issuing a statement saying that it had always intended for the bishop’s invocation to be included in the telecast and that the omission was an oversight, reports the NY Times.. The inaugural committee scheduled the opening event at the Lincoln Memorial, and HBO purchased the exclusive rights to broadcast it. “We regret the error in executing this plan but are gratified that hundreds of thousands of people who gathered on the mall heard his eloquent prayer for our nation that was a fitting start to our event,” Josh Earnest, a spokesman for the inaugural committee, was quoted as saying.

Joe Biden on Rick Warren Choice

In an interview with CNN's Larry King, Vice President-elect Joseph Biden answered a question on the controversy over the selection of Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at the inaugural: "Barack Obama said you've got to reach out. You've got to reach a hand of friendship across the aisle and across philosophies in this country. We can't continue to be a red and blue country. We can't be divided like we have been. And he's made good on his promise. And I would say to the gay and lesbian community, they have nothing to worry about. Barack Obama, every aspect of his life, every aspect of his public life, and every commitment he's made relating to equality for all people, will be things that he will stick with and that they should view this in the spirit in which he offered the opportunity to - to Mr. Warren."
