Brad Pitt on W Magazine

In February's issue of W magazine, Brad Pitt, who has contributed $100,000 last year to California’s No On Prop 8 campaign and who has said that he and Jolie will not wed until marriage rights are available to all, comes back on the subject : "People who are against gay marriage do not understand the very freedoms that they themselves are enjoying. What if someone said, ‘Sorry, no Christianity here? No Judaism. Certainly no Mormons.’ No one would stand for that, and I wouldn’t allow anyone to say that either. I’d fight them in the same way." Chuck Close, known for his superdetailed portraits that reveal every skin flaw, shot the pictures accompanying W's article (pictures above & below). Read Kevin West W's article here.

Brad Pitt stars in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button adapted from the 1920s story by F. Scott Fitzgerald about a man who is born in his eighties and ages backwards: a man, like any of us, who is unable to stop time. The film is directed by David Fincher and also stars Cate Blanchett, Taraji P. Henson, Tilda Swinton, Jason Flemyng, Elias Koteas and Julia Ormond. Watch a trailer...

OUT 100 People of 2008

OUT has unveiled the cover of its OUT 100 edition. The December/January special double issue takes on an Old Hollywood theme and pays tribute to 100 actors, musicians, writers, fashion designers, politicians and social figures who have made significant strides in the gay community during 2008. OUT special awardees, both gay and straight, include Gus Van Sant (far left on cover) for his thrilling new cinema paean to Harvey Milk, the first high-profile out elected official, Cheyenne Jackson (far right on cover) for his stereotype-breaking performances, Katy Perry (seated on cover) for her unfiltered ode to sexual experimentation, and Sam Sparro (seated on cover), an exciting new musician who never considered the closet as an option. The other 2008 awardees include actors Ian McKellen (left middle picture below), one of our most visible, grandest advocates—and the most tireless, and Luke Macfarlane (top picture below), identical twins Dean and Dan Caten, founders and designers of Dsquared2, director Alan Ball (picture above) and as newsmaker of the Year, Episcopal bishop Gene Robinson (right middle picture below), the first out, non-celibate priest to be ordained a bishop in a major Christian denomination.

Ora, François Rousseau's Tahitian Journey

François Rousseau's new book, Ora, is to be published on April 9. "After numerous voyages to Tahiti and its isles, the idea came to me for a 'Polynesian' album," says the French photographer. "As with all my photographic series, texts are at the origin of my images. In January 2006, Temehameharii Coeroli showed me his poems inspired by and impregnated with Tahitian oral culture. These chants have come to form the structure of our joint book. Ora is life, the source of life. Long before leaving for Tahiti, when I was preparing this voyage, this Tahitian word already figured in my notes as a possible title. Of all the words taken from Temehameharii’s poems, this one, as much for its sense as for its musicality, evoked all that I had loved in Tahiti during my earlier voyages and which I hoped to capture and reunite in this album." A special website with unpublished photos, video, music & making-of of the shooting has been launched for the occasion. Visit Ora's website here...

Ora is already available for pre-order on Amazon.fr, and soon on Amazon.com. Previous books by François Rousseau are available: Princes of the Sea, Amor Causa, Male Nudes, Locker Room Nudes/Dieux du Stade, Habibi NYC

OUT undresses Tom Ford

After Marc Jacobs, OUT Magazine undresses 45-year-old American fashion designer Tom Ford in its upcoming November issue. Tom Ford talks about the word Gay: "I have to say I don't think gay is the most attractive word; if I were art-directing the creation of a word that would describe homosexuals, I think I might have tried to find another one. Gay makes us sound silly and frivolous, which is probably where it came from originally - it was first used in a Cole Porter song in the '30s - and I think it was probably a bit derogatory, and so it's not a word I necessarily like, but it's what I am, whatever."

About straight guys, Ford says "I have a lot of gay friends, but I'd say my closest friends who are male are straight, and I don't know why that is... maybe because I always get crushes on them." About women he says: "I love women, I just don't fall in love with them, but I'm attracted to them, I find their bodies beautiful..."
