Prince Harry backed by Gay activist

Prince Harry, was widely criticised earlier this week over alleged racism after a 2006 video footage of him calling a colleague "Paki" surfaced on The News of the World's website. A royal spokesman later issued the prince's apology. In another extract Harry is asking a colleague how he felt after an army exercise, adding: "Gay... queer on the side?" The tabloid also posted images of Harry on a night out with friends in which he mouths to one soldier: "I love you" before kissing him on the cheek and licking his face. Stonewall's executive Ben Summerskill said that the prince should apologize for his homophobic remarks. But unexpectedly, Harry received the backing of Gay rights campaigner Peter Tatchell of Outrage!. The gay activist, said he had no problem with Harry's use of the word "queer" and praised his show of affection. "The prince is third in line to the British throne. For him to happily give his soldier friend a public kiss and lick his face strikes me as rather liberated and enlightened, for a straight man," he said. "If only more heterosexual men were relaxed about same-sex affection like Harry, the world would be a better place." Tatchell added: "The context and intention of words is crucial in deciding whether they are offensive or not. I don't find anything objectionable about the context in which Harry used the word queer," AFP reports.

Kevin Spacey on Gay Marriage

At the Petra Nemcova's 2008 Happy Hearts Fund Gala, Kevin Spacey was asked about gay marriage by CelebsGoneGood. He said: "Well there’s no doubt that election night was a bittersweet night. But in some ways, these kinds of setbacks allow for a bigger fight, more challenges, and eventually we’re going to get it right. Eventually the American public will figure out that it really isn’t right to deny citizens basic civil human rights. And we can no longer allow that to happen. So the fact that these things were voted in, to me, it’s just an example of the fact that they had more money. How much money did the Mormon church put in? So I hope, like Arnold Schwarzenegger said, Don’t give up. Keep protesting." And the star concluded: "Look, I think at the end of the day, if people are given rights, and the same basic rights that any individual is given, then we are in fact honoring the Constitution of the United States. Anything less than that is unfair."

Elton John doesn't want to get married

Elton John and his partner David Furnish (picture) were in New York for the annual benefit for the Elton John AIDS Foundation reports USA Today. The singer commented California's Proposition 8: "What is wrong with Proposition 8 is that they went for marriage. Marriage is going to put a lot of people off, the word marriage." The couple tied the knot in a civil partnership ceremony in Windsor, England. But, clarified the singer, "We're not married. Let's get that right. We have a civil partnership. I don't want to be married. I'm very happy with a civil partnership. If gay people want to get married, or get together, they should have a civil partnership. You get the same equal rights that we do when we have a civil partnership. Heterosexual people get married. We can have civil partnerships." he said.

Ellen DeGeneres pays to say No on Prop 8

The NO on Prop 8 campaign, Equality for All, announces that Ellen DeGeneres has made a media buy to urge Californians to vote NO on Proposition 8. "In her desire to speak directly to the people of California, Ellen has stepped up as only Ellen can," said Patrick Guerriero, Campaign Director. "Her voice has a tremendous ability to elevate this conversation above the scare tactics and help people understand what's at stake for the people they know and care about. Her generous contribution to the campaign comes just at the right moment – and is done in a way that ensures her conversation with voters continues to Election Day. And it delivers our message that Proposition 8 is unfair and just plain wrong." Acording to GLAAD, Ellen has purchased $100,000 of television air time to broadcast her special video to confront false and misleading scare tactics used by those supporting the proposition.
