Almodovar's All On My Mother on Stage

Samuel Adamson's new play brings the multi-award winning film of All About My Mother to the stage. The screen version won international acclaim and an Oscar for Pedro Almodóvar and was widely regarded as his finest and most mature film to date. In a career spanning 30 years his other films have included Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, Talk to Her and Volver. Adamson's other work includes Southwark Fair and a version of Pillars of the Community, both at the National Theatre.
Following the tragic death of her beloved teenage son (Colin Morgan), Manuela (Lesley Manville) goes to Barcelona in search of his father. But before she can exorcise her guilt she gets caught up in the lives of three women: Agrado (Mark Gatiss), a long-lost transvestite friend, Sister Rosa (Joanne Froggart), a young nun in search of love and Huma Rojo (Diana Rigg, unforgettable Emma Peel in The Avengers), the famous actress that Manuela’s son so admired. Just as Manuela’s life begins to have meaning again, her son’s father returns and her journey of discovery and forgiveness comes full circle. The cast also includes Charlotte Randle as Nina and Eleanor Bron as Sister Rosa's mother.

This theatrical stage adaptation of All About My Mother world premiered at The Old Vic Theatre in London's West End on 4th September 2007. The production marks the world's first English language adaptation of any of Almodóvar's works, and has the personal support and approval of Pedro Almodóvar. He attended the press night with the film's Sister Rosa; Penelope Cruz. Music by the film's composer, Alberto Iglesias, has been incorporated into the stage production, with a Stage Score by Max and Ben Ringham. The Old Vic production runs from 25 August to 24 November 2007. More info here.

THE GOLDEN GIRLS - The Complete Seventh and Final Season (1985)
The Golden Girls is based on the lives and interactions of four older women whom have all been divorced/widowed, and are now roommates. Bea Arthur's (Dorothy) main goal during the series is to find a companion she can relate to while her mother Estelle Getty (Sophia) adds her comical outlook and frequent "Picture This" stories. Betty White's (Rose) St. Olaf-ness makes her a little corny but lovable. One thing that changes nearly every episode is whom Rue McClanahan (Blanche) is courting. She's a little too promiscuous for her own good... Available on DVD
