Morrissey has released on his myspace his new single I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris. Eartha Kitt dies at 81

American singer, dancer and actress born on a South Carolina cotton plantation to become a diva, Eartha Kitt died Thursday at age 81. Kitt, a versatile multi-media performer, engaging talk show regular and longtime human rights activist, had been suffering from colon cancer. Her publicist said she died in New York with her daughter, Kitt Shapiro, at her side. She started her career in the 1940s with Katharine Dunham's dance company and made her Broadway debut at 18. She found an admirer in Orson Welles who called her "the most exciting woman in the world." Famous for her sultry voice and cat-like growl, she found in the 80's a new audience among young gays, with disco hits like Where Is My Man, I Love Men or This Is My Life. Elton John doesn't want to get married

Elton John and his partner David Furnish (picture) were in New York for the annual benefit for the Elton John AIDS Foundation reports USA Today. The singer commented California's Proposition 8: "What is wrong with Proposition 8 is that they went for marriage. Marriage is going to put a lot of people off, the word marriage." The couple tied the knot in a civil partnership ceremony in Windsor, England. But, clarified the singer, "We're not married. Let's get that right. We have a civil partnership. I don't want to be married. I'm very happy with a civil partnership. If gay people want to get married, or get together, they should have a civil partnership. You get the same equal rights that we do when we have a civil partnership. Heterosexual people get married. We can have civil partnerships." he said.

OUT has unveiled the cover of its OUT 100 edition. The December/January special double issue takes on an Old Hollywood theme and pays tribute to 100 actors, musicians, writers, fashion designers, politicians and social figures who have made significant strides in the gay community during 2008. OUT special awardees, both gay and straight, include Gus Van Sant (far left on cover) for his thrilling new cinema paean to Harvey Milk, the first high-profile out elected official, Cheyenne Jackson (far right on cover) for his stereotype-breaking performances, Katy Perry (seated on cover) for her unfiltered ode to sexual experimentation, and Sam Sparro (seated on cover), an exciting new musician who never considered the closet as an option. The other 2008 awardees include actors Ian McKellen (left middle picture below), one of our most visible, grandest advocates—and the most tireless, and Luke Macfarlane (top picture below), identical twins Dean and Dan Caten, founders and designers of Dsquared2, director Alan Ball (picture above) and as newsmaker of the Year, Episcopal bishop Gene Robinson (right middle picture below), the first out, non-celibate priest to be ordained a bishop in a major Christian denomination.
