Mambo Italiano on Logo tonight

Set in the Little Italy neighborhood of Montreal, Mambo Italiano is a fresh and enjoyable take on gay relationships. Angelo Barberini (Luke Kirby, right picture) is the oddball son of Italian immigrants Gino (Paul Sorvino) and Maria (Ginette Reno), who inadvertently ended up in Canada rather than the States. Angelo shocks his parents and his sister, Anna (Claudia Ferri) by moving out on his own without getting married, and, shortly after that, shocks them further still when he reveals that he's gay. But his boyfriend (and childhood best friend), policeman Nino Paventi (Peter Miller, bottom picture), isn't as ready to come out of the closet, especially not to his busybody Sicilian mother, Lina (Mary Walsh). Watch a trailer...

Mambo Italiano starring Luke Kirby, Peter Miller, Paul Sorvino, Ginette Reno, Mary Walsh, directed by Émile Gaudreault airs tonight on Logo at 8 pm and is available on DVD here.

Rick & Steve, First Season on DVD

Welcome to the gayest of gay ghettoes, West Lahunga Beach, where Rick and Steve, the happiest gay couple in all the world (see previous post), make their fabulously decorated double-income-no-children home. That is until Rick’s lifelong lesbian friend Kirsten asks him to be the father of her child. There’s just one catch, Kirsten’s wife Dana and Rick’s husband Steve are mortal enemies. The insults fly, nothing goes unspoken, and the ugly, bitter truth about domestic bliss never looked so cute. Rick & Steve - The Complete First Season on DVD will be released on August 28, 2007. Pre-order is available now. Watch Rick & Steve trailer...

The man behind Steve, or as Peter calls him, the "gym queen," is Peter Paige, best known for his role as Emmett Honeycutt on Showtime's Queer as Folk. Paige discusses his role as one of the title characters. Peter says that although there's not much to Steve other than Creatine and chicken breasts, he's more than happy to play the part since the world could use some more inappropriate humor. U.S. Democratic Candidates on Gay issues

Yesterday night, six candidates, including the front-runner, New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton; and her closest challengers, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama and former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, were jockeying to firm up support among gay and lesbian voters, one of the party's more active and reliable voting blocs. One candidate, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, got caught up in the most tense moment of the evening when he was asked whether he believes people are born gay or whether it is a choice. "It's a choice," he said. Richardson released a statement moments after the event, saying that he had misunderstood the question and that he does not believe people choose to be gay.
Throughout the two-hour event, sponsored by Human Rights Campaign and televised live on Logo, the candidates at turns answered questions from a panel, spoke confidently but also stepped gingerly around the edges of charged topics such as same-sex marriage. The panelists tried to draw out Clinton, Obama, Edwards and Richardson on their opposition to expanding the definition of marriage to include same-sex couples. None of them budged, all saying instead that they think gays and lesbians should be afforded the rights of married couples through civil unions. Only Ohio Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich and former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel, both spoke strongly in favor of gay marriage. Watch Mike Gravel (top left), Barack Obama (top right), Hillary Clinton (bottom left) and John Edwards (bottom right)...

Indeed, none of the candidates made any notable departures from the well-established and nearly identical positions they have carved out. In questionnaires completed before the event, the candidates - including Sens. Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware and Christopher J. Dodd of Connecticut, who did not attend - all said, for example, that same-sex couples should be allowed to adopt. They also supported legislation pending in the Senate that would expand the definition of hate crimes to include those motivated by a victim's sexual orientation and gender.

Camp Out, Gay & Christian

If it isn't hard enough being a gay teenager in the midwest, imagine being a gay Christian teen. With the derision of society, family and the church against them, ten gay Christian teenagers struggle to confront the questions of faith and their burgeoning sexuality in light of what their church and Christian society has told them. This documentary follows them as they attend the first gay and lesbian Christian youth camp in the woods of Minnesota. For those who find the road between religion and sexuality impossible to travel, this documentary shows that for some the road is passable. Part of Logo's Real Momentum documentary series.

Mike Gravel thanks Gays

U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Mike Gravel is walking on air after hearing that the Human Rights Campaign and Logo decided to allow him to appear at their forthcoming gay debate: "I would like to thank Queerty and the LGBT community for pressuring the Human Rights Campaign to reverse its decision not to invite me to the forum on gay issues. The HRC caved after gay and lesbian people throughout the nation flooded its offices with emails and phone calls demanding my participation. Last week you spoke up for me and now I’m going to speak up for you. I promise to use the HRC forum to advance the entire discussion about gay rights and educate the American public that gay rights is one of the great moral issues of our time... I will use the HRC forum to tell the American public that denying gays and lesbians equal rights, including marriage, is IMMORAL... I proudly joined this year’s San Francisco gay pride march and was the first major party presidential candidate to participate in a pride parade. I believe one of the greatest obstacles to the gay rights movement has been the false security of the closet. Millions of gays and lesbians understandably fear the reaction of their employers and their families and continue to hide their sexuality. I have used the platform of the presidential campaign to encourage gays and lesbians to come out and openly fight for their rights... You, the LGBT community, showed that you are sick of being called immoral; you’re tired of being taken for granted. You know that I am one of the few candidates who speaks his mind and isn’t afraid to mount the national stage and tell the American public that depriving gays and lesbians of equal rights is IMMORAL," stated Mike Gravel.

U.S. Democrats to hold Gay debate

The top Democratic presidential contenders will take part in an Aug. 9 debate on gay issues, in what is being billed as a first-of-its-kind event, with Viacom's Logo cable net to air it. Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, John Edwards and Christopher Dodd have agreed to participate in the forum, with questions to be posed by a panel that includes singer Melissa Etheridge and Joe Solmonese, president of the Human Rights Campaign. The Human Rights Campaign Foundation and Logo are sponsoring the debate, to be held in Studio City. The fact that all of the top-tier candidates agreed to the debate is perhaps a testament to the importance of the gay vote, which organizers say makes up about 4% of the voting population.
HRC spokesman Brad Luna said there will be no forum of Republican presidential candidates, even though the Human Rights Campaign did extend invites. Among HRC's criteria for holding the debate was that it would have to secure at least two top-tier contenders to participate. Mitt Romney's campaign said no, and HRC never got a response from the campaigns of John McCain and Rudy Giuliani, Luna said.
The one-hour event will be held on August 9 and broadcast on gay network LOGO at 9:00 pm ET (6:00 pm PT) and through live streaming video at LOGOonline.com.
