Jonathan Rhys-Meyers is King Henry VIII in Showtime's The Tudors

The new SHOWTIME ten-hour dramatic series The Tudors, which stars Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (Match Point, Elvis, Alexander, Velvet Goldmine), is the incredible tale of the young, powerful, seductive King Henry VIII. A daring series focusing on the tumultuous early years of the ambitious King, his romantic relationships with Catherine of Aragon – his brother’s widow – and the infamous Anne Boleyn, the first of his wives that he beheaded. The series also delves into his political relationships, including those with philosopher Sir Thomas More and Cardinal Wolsey, head of the Catholic Church of England during its break with Rome. Charles McDougall (Desperate Housewives, Sex and the city, Queer As Folk, UK) has directed the pilot of the series, which is scheduled to air on the network in the spring of 2007.
