Ellen and Portia tied the knot

"Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi were married tonight in an intimate ceremony at their home in Los Angeles," their spokesperson tells PEOPLE exclusively. The intimate ceremony was attended by 19 guests, including DeGeneres's mom Betty and de Rossi's mother Margaret Rogers (who flew in from Australia for the occasion), who witnessed the couple exchange handwritten vows. The couple have been dating since December 2004. Ellen DeGeneres, 50, announced her plans to wed Portia de Rossi, 35, when the state of California ruled in favor of gay marriage in May 2008.

John McCain & Ellen on Gay Marriage

Republican candidate for United States Presidency, Senator John McCain was on Ellen DeGeneres' show yesterday and they talked about Gay Marriage. McCain said he believes "in the unique status of marriage between man and woman" and that he and Ellen were having "a respectful disagreement on that issue." DeGeneres answered:"It just feels like there is this old way of thinking that we are not all the same. We are all the same people. You are no different than I am. Our love is the same... When someone says, 'You can have a contract, and you'll still have insurance, and you'll get all that,' it sounds to me like saying, 'Well, you can sit there; you just can't sit there.' It doesn't feel feel inclusive. It feels isolated." Watch a video...

Ellen DeGeneres on Homophobic politician

Sally Kern, an Oklahoma state representative has received thousands of hostile e-mail messages after she said that homosexuality is a bigger threat to national security than terrorism. More than 17,000 mostly hostile e-mails were sent her after parts of a speech she gave to a Republican organization earlier this year were posted on YouTube, said Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Jessica Brown. During her speech, Kern said that "the homosexual agenda is just destroying this nation" and that homosexuality poses a bigger threat to the United States than terrorism. "According to God's word, that is not the right kind of lifestyle," she said. Her speech, first posted online earlier this week by the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund, has generated national attention. Several gay rights organizations have called for her to resign and local newspapers have criticized her. "Her comments are so inappropriate and beyond the pale that she's demonstrated that she's not fit for service in public office," said Patrick Sammon, president of the Log Cabin Republicans, a national association of gay and lesbian Republicans. "For someone to compare gay people to terrorists is really difficult to comprehend. She should be ashamed." Watch Ellen DeGeneres trying to call Sally Kern...

Ellen: "Check on who you are voting for"

Last Thursday during her show, Ellen DeGeneres spoke about the tragic death of Lawrence King, this young gay student killed at school because he was gay. She said: "I need to talk to you about something that’s really serious and really sad and if you know me, it’s hard to talk about sad stuff without getting emotional but this is really important to talk about. On February 12th, an openly gay 15-year-old boy named Larry who was an 8th grader in Oxnard, California, was murdered by a fellow 8th grader named Brandon. Larry was killed because he was gay. Days before he was murdered, Larry asked his killer to be his Valentine.
I don't want to be political, this is not political, I'm not a political person, but this is personal to me. A boy has been killed and a number of lives have been ruined. And, somewhere along the line the killer, Brandon, got the message that it's so threatening and so awful, and so horrific that Larry would want to be his Valentine, that killing Larry seemed to be the right thing to do. And when the message out there is so horrible, that to be gay, you can get killed for it, we need to change the message.
Larry was not a second-class citizen. I am not a second-class citizen. It is ok if you're gay. I don't care what people say I don't care what people think, and I know that there are entire groups of people who face discrimination every single day and we're a long way from treating each other equally. All of it is unacceptable. All of it. But I would like you to start paying attention to how often being gay is a punchline of a monologue or how often gay jokes are in a movie. And that kind of message, laughing at someone cause they're gay, is just the beginning. It starts with laughing at someone, then it's verbal abuse, then it's physical abuse, and then it's this kid Brandon killing a kid like Larry. We must change our country and we can do it, we can do it with our behavior, we can do it with our messages that we send our children, we can do it with our vote, this is an election year, there's a lot of talk about change, I think one thing we should change is hate.
Check on who you are voting for, and if that person really truly believe that we're all equal under the law. And if you're not sure, change your vote, we deserve better." Watch the video...

Ellen DeGeneres' adopted Dog Saga

Ellen DeGeneres made the news recently with the story of Iggy, a dog she has adopted from a dog recue agency, Mutts and Moms and then gave to her hairdresser's family. The adoption agreement required DeGeneres to return the dog to the agency if the adoption did not work out. DeGeneres apologized on-air for her mistake, strongly disagreeing with the agency's decision to remove the dog from the home she had found for it. Watch Ellen on her show explaining the situation (top left, top right, bottom left videos) and an Entertainment Tonight video of the Hollywood dog saga (bottom right video)...
